A beta version of WinHex 10.75 is now available here.

What's new?

* A directory browser, which resembles the Windows Explorer's right-hand list, is now optionally part of an disk edit window. It lists existing files and directories first, then deleted files and directories (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 only). Also works on image files of logical drives and partitions opened from within a physical disk, even if not mounted in Windows (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 only). Double-clicking any item in the directory browser lists all clusters of the selected file or directory and allows to navigate to these clusters in the disk editor and to copy the file off the drive.

* The simultaneous search facility now supports hex values if they are specified with the 0x prefix.

* When restoring a backup that was split into several volumes, WinHex now allows to restore all volumes subsequently without user interaction, and it allows to restore all volumes into a single
flat image file.

* The Synchronize & Compare feature now supports up to four windows at the same time (instead of only two).

* In the disk selection dialog, physical hard disk numbering now starts with 0 instead of 1, as known from Windows NT's and its successors' disk manager.

* Some minor improvements.

Please send error reports and your comments by e-mail or post them right here.

Beta D:

* A physical disk's total size is now displayed in the disk selection dialog.

* Under Windows 2000/XP, the model no. of a physical hard disk and optical drive can now often be seen in the details panel, in the Clone Disk dialog window, and in the Make Disk Backup dialog.

Just installed WinHex 10.75 beta,
It does not display characters correctly
during hex edit of any file. I am running
Win98SE. Just scrambles the hex and text
display, data seems to go in the correct
place but you cannot tell it by looking
at WinHex display.

Is there an approximate release date for the non-beta of 10.75?

Stefan,
Thanks, that fixed the problem. Initialization problem ?
Are there any plans in the works to implement the context menu handler under HKCR\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\WinHex ? I use MS Office shortcut bar. Of course I am using SendTo, so it is not too important. This "Hex Editor" is so much more than that, you have my money!

Yes, some kind of initialization problem. No, currently there are no such plans, sorry.

Beta E:

* WinHex can now tell the contents of a currently displayed cluster for a NTFS drive also if it was opened as a partition or as an image file.

* The drive contents table is slightly more extensive now on NTFS drives (size of directories, resident files).

Beta F:

* The directory browser now offers the same functionality for NTFS as it does for FAT. Apparently some bugs still need to be fixed.

Problem with text only display. Using 10.75 beta I, although I've noticed it in previous betas. Selecting View -> Text Display Only (F7) when the top of a file is visible causes the text column width to stay the same (0x10 bytes) as hex & text together even though the line offsets are now 0x40 increments.

Bit more! Also getting a display problem in hex only (Alt-F7) mode when paging down to the end of a file. A partial half byte column gets repeated down to the end of the display.
