I was using Dekart Private Disk with my private financial files, the software creates a virtual encrypted disk (disk is encrypted by the "AES key" using AES algorithm) within a file and mounts it as a real disk, and also allows you to save the file (encrypted disk) with any extension you want (I saved mine with .rar extension) and only when you open the file and put the password you "see"the virtual hard drive.. if not you see just the .rar file.. The problem is that I cut the .rar file and pasted it in an externan hard drive that crushed.. now I was trying to fin it in the disk that I cut it from, but with WinHex I can't find the .rar file (the Dekart Private Disk file).. is it because it was encrypted? any idea of how to recover the files? Thanks a lot! |

Hello, > with WinHex I can't find the .rar file Does that mean that you opened the disk in WinHex, browsed to the former folder of the file, and found nothing? Please state the file system of that partition. If there is no entry in the browser, perhaps the file can be restored using "Tools|Data Recovery|Recover by Type". Restrict recovered files to the type RAR. Please see "help|Data Recovery|Automatic recovery of files of a certain type" for more hints on this. Depending on the nature of the disk crash, the same method may be applicable to your external disk. Wishing a successful data recovery Björn Ganster |
