Dear Support Team and Forum Members! A few days ago I have wrongly deleted (shift+delete) a *.txt file from my desktop (C:\Documents and Settings\user\desktop). Now I need to undelete it. I’ am using Windows XP SP2, NTFS file system and WinHex 15 SR 2. I have found some parts of my file in hex-explorer and by Simultaneous Search. Now I don’t know how to undelete it. I have try Tools-Disk Tools-File Recover by Type, but there are no *.txt extension in it, so I can’t undelete that file without signature information! What is the Header, Offset, Footer and Default in KB for *.txt file extension? And, what is the most important, how can i undelete the *.txt file? Please help me to undelete it - it is very important to me! Thank You! |

> found some parts of my file in hex-explorer and by > Simultaneous Search. Now I don’t know how to undelete it How about simply copying the text that you have found and pasting it into a new file? Please try, it's not more difficult than using a word processing application. > What is the Header, Offset, Footer and Default in KB for > *.txt file extension? I think you are not familiar with the concept. It's very unlikely that anyone here knows how (e.g. with what word) your text files start. |

Thank You for answer!. I have found my file (e.g. filename)in many places, not in one. Which one i have to restore? And there are no text above the filename - only compiled symbols like this: Xj......€.n............òiâèÈ.~Ò€¼çìÈ.~Ò€¼çìÈ.Ò€¼çìÈ........ %Ž...... .....!. Only the filename has no symbols (e.g. it called "HTML Manual NEW!!!" and above that text only symbols, no normal text displayed!) When i copy all that symbols to a new file, it contains only that symbols, no text! How can i do that? My file has begun with word "HTML"!. What should i do? |

Before I understand you had found some parts of your file (i.e. of the file contents). That is what you would copy into a new file, of course, not file system data structures (e.g. filename and binary data) about the file. If you have not found some parts of the file, then search for them, i.e. search for known text passages. > My file has begun with word "HTML"!. What should i do? First you need to get a few things straight. Again you seem to confuse the file contents with the filename. If the data structures of the file still can still be found in the file system, fine, then maybe WinHex can still automatically find the deleted file, list it in the directory browser, and allow you to recover it automatically. But for a manual recover of the file contents (copy & paste) or file carving (file header signature search, Tools | Disk Tools | File Recovery by Type) you would need to know something about the file contents. |

> I have try to find parts of it (i.e. contents) > but i have found nothing... If so and if you made no mistakes when running the search (i.e. incorrect character set or code page select, wording not remembered precisely, ...), then... > It seems that file is lost forever? ...unfortunately yes. |

I don`t know if you created a lot of new files in the last days - or if you installed something new. If not there is always a good chance to find the content of a .txt file again, as a .txt file usually contains only the pure text - nothing else. So search for a special string where you know that it is in this text file. If you don`t find it - bad luck. Try a second string. Sometimes you can restore parts of the text out of the slackspace. Of course you have to look over the whole HD / partition! Eh, forgot to ask: Did you have a look at recylce bin? In recycle.bin the name of the file is not always identical with the original name if you use a hex editor. But I suppose you already know this. |

I have a Olympus D-360L. I have two smart media cards, in a protected case. Last week i tried to use them both in my pc, and they both worked fine. Yesterday, i went to use them in the pc and one worked fine and the other one showed nothing. I re-inserted it back into the Olympus camera, and it said card error. Is there a way i can get my data from that card? They were pictures. Can someone please help me with this? thank you jazzmine54868 |

I suggest that you load the card into XWF through the camera or a card reader. For a quick recovery, simply load the physical card and try carve JPGs at the sector level. |
