Hi,

The board (Mylex) don't work and we would like to recover the data in another computer.

It's possible with Winhex?

I don't konw this info:
a) the block (strip) size - default: 64 KB=128 sec.?,
b) offset ??????? in the begin of the disks,
c) block and parity type : backward or forward ?

The first one (a) I saw in manual and I think is the default.

Thank you very much for your info,

Ruy Benton

I don't know this info either. You can either experiment a little, look at the data and make educated guesses, or ask someone who knows this RAID type. Most likely you can replicate the pattern in WinHex.

Hi,
did you already look for the manual of the board? Sometimes there is information about this in it.

Hi,
I explored the disks and the block (strip) size is 64 KB=128 sectors (saw several blocks of texts).
But I can't get the order - backward or forward.

And MBR don't have the partition info. The partition - all 000

I searched the NTFS (512 postion 3). But find only in middle of disks 1 partition.

>did you already look for the manual of the board? Sometimes

www.lsi.com/obsolete/acceleraid_170_2458.html?remote=1&locale=EN
Only the block size. And install, setup the Raid.

Thank for yours comments,

Mylex 160 and 170 are Forward Parity Rotation and the Metadata is on the back, so offset is zero - parity starts on sector 0 of the first drive and MBR on sector 0 of the second member. 64kb is the default, but can be anything from 8kb to 1024kb. Use "Scan for lost Partitions" tool under "Disk Tools" to locate partitions if the MBR is zero'd out. If you can't get good directory structure try dropping each member offline one at a time and take the best. If all recovery attempts are the same and produce the same exact results when you drop off each drive then the RAID array may have been rebuilt incorrectly. But first try different stripe sizes before you come to the conclusion it's no good.

Good luck,

Since MBR is unavailble and I think NTFS is the same, please can you tell the procedure to analyze the MFT and search FILE0 and INDX data back (software, programs).
