While writing a GPS-Track to Mini-SDHC, my Android Phone G1 ran out of battery and left the card's FAT32 filesystem damaged. When I connect the card to my PC (no matter if through the PC's internal card reader or a usb-based one, which both otherwise work fine) and click on "Tools->Open Disk" in WinHex, the Software freezes until I disconnect the card. I am sure the card's controller is still intact, because other data recovery software can without trouble access the cards specifications (exact disk size, cylinder size and number, card type etc.). |

It appears that one of the Windows commands that WinHex sends to the card reader that does not return while that card is in the card reader. Sorry, I don't know which one. Maybe it works if you remove the drive letter that Windows may have assigned to the volume on the card. If so, you can probably still open the card as a physical medium in WinHex, and the volume/partition by double-clicking it in the window that represents the physical medium. (BTW, please do not actually believe these other programs when they say that your card has "cylinders".) |
