Hello everyone I have a bad feeling I won't be able to recover files myself. I have used the file recovery programs Davory and WinHex and various others before with success on this card. My situation is kind of weird to me... This weekend I took 190 pictures at a convention. When I put the card into my computer Vista said it needed to be formatted and could not be used. I did NOT format it and restarted the computer and kept reinserting the disk, but keep getting the same error. I became freaked out something happened to my card but when I put it back in my camera the pictures were there. I did use programs to try and recover files but it was not showing any to be recovered. All programs said 0 files recovered. Figured out to open as a physical drive and that worked! For 101 of the pictures...I was still missing a huge chunk. I cut those pictures over to a folder (instead of copy, a stupid move on my part, so excited I "fixed it", not realizing it wasn't showing all my photos. After a few hours of trying to recover photos I decided to format since nothing was working with Davory or WinHex or other programs, and thinking that if something was wrong with the card and format fixed it, file recovery would have a better chance of recovering images (even though I know it's harder with formatted cards, but I was at my wit's end) Still nothing. It's just showing 0 files whenever I try to recover. With Davory I used by file type and by name. No errors reported, no one is saying the card is corrupt, it just seems like the life has been erased from it or something. I just took a new picture on my formatted card, and of course the computer reads the new picture just fine, as does the camera, so I don't see how the card isn't working as it still takes and saves pictures. !!! I'm unemployed and it will be a long time before I could send it to a recovery service. Is there any help or suggestions? This doesn't make sense to me. I have recovered old pictures on this same card before, the card seems to be working fine, new pictures can be saved and withdrawn from it... |

Sometimes the problem is an old card reader. I have had a case where the card reader showed some pictures, but not all, because it did not support the size of the card. Try a new card reader (from a colleague...). Especially if you have cards bigger than 2 GB you can throw old readers into trash. |

Thanks for the response, I did not know that about the size. I wish I knew that before things were off the card. The card itself is actually small though, it's only 64 MB. Could the reader still not read the size if almost full? It is built into the computer. |
