Once you delete the partition, the file table is gone. And, can't be retrieved.

BTW, what do you mean you want "to recover the file system back to win 98"?

However, you could retrieve whatever data you had by opening the drive as a physical drive and use the tools located under Tools -> Disk Tools.

Get the data off the drive...

Although, you could "reinstall" WinME, but it won't help you in getting your files back. Nice magic work there, Lfito. :)

If I put myself in your shoes, I would try to rebuild this partition's entry in the partition table manually. Please see the WinHex Knowledge Base on how hard disk partitioning works. WinHex provides a template for filling the partition table more conveniently.

In need of advice/help....
Problem I'm having is that my hard drive is inaccessible. A friend of mine had a problem with his hard drive so i removed my HD from my computer and installed the HD from his computer and in my computer with the thought that his mother board may have failed. His HD was still not working in my computer so I ran fdisk on his HD, deleted & recreated the FAT32 partition, rebooted with windows 2000 & reinstalled the operating system on his HD & is working fine. After that I reinstalled my HD back in my computer and I now have a problem where the computer can't read the partition on MY HD that was working fine prior. SO.....rather then do anything to my HD, I bought a new one & started over. Well, the new HD is working fine but EVERYTHING i had on my other drive is still not able to be read. Can someone PLEASE explain to me how I can recover the files or be able to reconfigure the old HD to be able to access it again. Any information would be EXTREMELY appreciated or step by step instruction as to what is necessary to accomplish this task.

Wish the person who started this thread had found
my website first! I highly recommend a FREE
utility called "testdisk" which will recover any
"lost partitions" (those you lose by deleting a
partition from your Partition Table or the whole
MBR for that matter) on a hard drive!!! Get the
source WITH a DOS executable you can run from a
floppy diskette here:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.html
