I have a 128 mb san disk for my digital camera and when I download photos using my digital camera software, the message I receive indicates that the ....jpg file exists but may be damaged; therefore, I cannot transfer photos. What does this mean and is my san disk damaged or is it something with my computer?

It probably means that the logical file system structure on the disk is damaged. You may be able to recover your photos with our Davory data recovery software.

So this is a problem with the san disk and not the computer itself?

I think so, yes.

I don't believe my problem is with the san disk because I removed the disk from my digital camera, took pictures using the camer's internal memory, then tried to download on the computer. I continue to get the message that the file....jpg exists but may be damaged
(301-609-3). Any suggestions on what to do now?

You could try a few of the following:

If you connect your camera to your computer, does it show as a logical drive, i.e. is it available via Windows Explorer as a drive letter? If so, try copying pictures this way instead of the camera's management program. If that works, the error is within the camera software.

Also, try connecting your camera to a different computer. If the problem persists, it is the camera's fault. If it does not, well, you will have your pictures back and the problem is with your computer.

If you have a card reader (or know someone who does) try accessing the san disk without the camera - and see if the pictures are accessible then.

And of course, try using Davory to recover the pictures from your san disk!

Or it means you're using that stupid Kodak EasyShare software with an account that doesn't have adminstrative privileges.
Same problem here. :/
Can xfer photos through Windows Explorer so the media is ok. Of course this does my network 'users' worlds of good. "Where's the 'any' key ? "

I just used the trial version of the Davory data recovery software, and I must say this program is wonderful. I was looking for 7 pictures in particular and it found well over 10,000. I got the pictures that I needed (pictures of my moms car after her accident), plus some that I have totally forgotten about. The only draw back was the time that it took to complete, a little over 24 hrs, maybe the full version runs faster. But I got the pictures that I needed so I'm not complaining. I am so glad that I found the message board, THANK YOU Davory.

This file was produced by a software program that is supposed to "read" images from a larger file. However, the resultant jpg files cannot be opened or viewed. I have hundreds of these! I looked at them with a hex editor and it appears that there is a problem with the header.

According to filext.com (a very good source for file extension details) those initial bytes indicate that file MAY be a JPG2000 file, which would either be with a .JP2 or .JPC.

The JPG2000 format is a loss-less (NO loss) JPG image compression format. JPG2000 can be opened by IrfanView.

IrfanView can repair some image data error when it opens the image file. Such as, if the image has the wrong file file extension attached it will ask if you want the file extension renamed. You do not need to accept that suggestion to open it with IrfanView. In fact, IrfanView can open images with NO file extension at all.

But if the file is corrupted, even IrfanView can't repair the damage.

Good luck!!!
