running specialist version. While attempting to recover by file type on a drive with crc errors and that reports - "cannot be formatted" I can recover plenty of jpg's. the screen locks after time out, then I cannot get the program to respond at all. Winhex 15 p4 1 gig ram comp.

Running into timeouts while accessing a bad drive can result in a situation where the calling application gets halted by the driver. This is very likely a Windows problem. To deal with such problems one can change to an "alternate disk access method" (general options). This lets one increase the timeout interval or circumvent the driver at all. Another strategy is to avoid the bad spots, that gets the calling application stuck.
