What are my options? I have a kodak SD card with 512 MB. My camera is Casio EXILIM EXZ40. I assuming the worst. I must have either deleted all or formatted the card. I can see 2 pictures on the card. There are 30 pictures I don't see. WinHex is returning some data for the 2 pictures but I am getting all FF FF FF and yyyyy. Is this mean all the pictures are doomed. Please say there is hope. I will pay for WinHex if I can recover. Thank you in advance.

If except for the two existing pictures you see nothing but "FF" values in the sectors of the card, I'm very sorry, as far as can tell, there is no hope. Try "File Recovery by Type" with the evaluation version of WinHex to be sure you didn't overlook anything.

File recovery by type

gave me this message - 50 headers were found 12 files were retrieved 6 of the are incomplete or corrupted. What does this mean?

That means that

1) there is a lot data other FF still on the card

2) 12 files were recovered (you will find them in the output folder you selected)

3) 6 out of these 12 files are known to be incomplete or corrupt

4) 38 more files were found and detected to be larger than 200 KB, but not recovered because the evaluation version does not save files larger than 200 KB

The other 38 files will be retrieved automatically along with the 12 other ones in the evaluation version. Please note that some of these 38 files may be corrupt or incomplete as well. Sorry, WinHex cannot repair corrupted or incomplete files.

stefan,

Thank you for all the responses. Is there a way I can backup the content of the SD card and email you the content. Can you take a look at it. I hate to buy the product and never use it. I promise to buy if it can recover the files. Please let me know. Thanks

You can backup the content of the card as a WHX backup (File | Create Disk Image). You could then send us that WHX file on a CD. Please see this page for our data recovery fees.

Stefan,

I know for sure there are 2 jpg files that I can download. Can I send you the CD-Rom and you can tell me if they are recoverable before I send you the money. Thanks

Yes, we charge a service fee only if recovery is successful. The fee depends on the number of successfully recovered files per media.

Stefan,

I only have a eval copy of WinHex. Can I do a backup with that copy? What format should I save the backup as? I will send the CD in a day or 2. Thanks

Yes, you can, that's why I suggested this procedure. You would select the WHX format, as I wrote above.

Could you describe more exactly what you mean, please?
