It would be useful to add a few options to WinHex disk image explorer: - When you are browsing an image (CDFS/NFTS), if you right-click on an file it would be very useful if you can IMPORT (replace) and COMPARE this file of the image with another one (out of the image) without extracting it before. This help a lot when you are repairing corrupted images/CDs... Now the only way to do this is copying the sectors manually and since nowadays is common to have files of Gbs this operation is very time and memory consumming. If the process of IMPORT(replace)/COMPARE a file is done byte to byte directly to the image file without using the clipboard/temporaly file i think that the process is done faster and don't have that memory requirements, am i right?. Of course the files must be equal in lenght. If that is not the case, then it can be showed an advertistment. - Another similar and also interesting option is to IMPORT a file at a specific sector/address of the image. - At last, another useful improvement to the editor is to add support for CD-image-files that have 2352 bytes per sector, and the posibility of change the colour of the hex/ascii data view following a customizable pattern (differents colours associated to differents types of data, that are common in a range of sectors) that could be showed in a little window in the right side. What do you think about it? It would be possible/easy to implement this features? Thanks for your great soft. |

1, 2) Would be possible, but sorry, this will not be a priority. 3) Support for CD images based on that sector size would be possible to implement. Will keep these suggestions in mind, thanks. Have more than 560 other ideas on file already, however. |

Hi, Stefan. WinHex have improved a lot in the last versions. Thx for your hard work. Here is a link to a program that works with CD/DVD images. I think the project have been abandoned. If you have a quick look at it, perhaps it will help you, or at least give you a few ideas to improve WinHex. http://ftp.uevora.pt/pub/Mirrors/CDmage/CDmage1-02-1B5.rar Regads and keep up the good work. |
