Hi I have got a problem on my newly installed XP sp3 computer. (500Gb disk in two partition, 4 port card reader + 120GB ext. usb disk, RAM 1GB, 3GHz P4). When I now try to start the edit disk feature, winhex freezes and hang for a couple of minutes while trying to open the "edit disk" frame where I would select the disk to view. When finaly opened, after selecting needed device, (in my case a 64MB sd card), winhex freezes again and spend very long time opening the device. I have a registered copy of version 15,1 but can not figure out why the system respond so slow. The rest of the system responds normal and seem not to be affected by the Winhex problem. Any sugestions of where to start investigation?? I have been using the very same computer earlier and same hw but then with w2k sp4. Back then things went smotely. I did a new download of 15,1 today and reinstalled it but that did not change anything. PLEASE NOTE: I tested a few other features of winhex and these seemd to operate as normal. I can also provide the memdump which winxp error report tries to send to MS upon request prrrrrleas? breg Vidar (Z) breg Vidar |

> winhex freezes and hang for a couple of minutes while trying to open the "edit disk" frame where I would select the disk to view. This can happen when there is faulty/failing media (for assorted reason) attached to the system. (even in a W2K configuration, and I will bet you did not try the 64MB sd card on your earlier W2k config?). Confirm WinHex is AOK by trying it again without the 64MB SD card attached (assuming that is the attached media with a fault). Thank you, Ross@WinPro.net |

> (even in a W2K configuration, and I will bet you did not try the 64MB sd card on your earlier W2k config?). I win that one, sorry, but you do not lose any glory though because removing the media makes a diference and WinHex started the edit tool as it should. When I inserted the card again magic happend and winhex worked as normal, I guess my card reader is a bit weard out and might not gain proper contact with the card or the card itself has some issues making winhex to lock up when query the card.. Howver, disk manager reports the card to be healty, but if the world were to be relaying on that tool we eould not need winhex, would we? Now it reads the cards format as it should though. Thanx |
