I have a Western Digital 40GB hard disk drive. It had win98SE on in until it crashed. My bios cannot detect it but win hex can. The serial number on my drive has $ $ $ signs in it. Anyway, I tried fdisking but it did not create any partitions. I think the MBR is messed which is why I used winhex. When I opened Winhex, the MBR had a 55 AE instead of 55 AA. Half the drive is filled with 04 04 04 for most of the values. Winhex is able to read the drive. I cannot access it as a single drive nor in a dual drive system. Oh yes, I forgot to add that when I fdisked it, It said it made the partitions but when I rebooted there were no partitions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ( I have recovered info from the drive).
