Compact Flash Cards have a CIS (Card Information Structure) which is read, when inserted, by the host so that a driver could then be loaded and successful IO accomplished. Some of the information includes the manufacturer, product name, revision, but much of it is concerned with IO characteristics. You can sometimes see a tiny bit of this information when a driver is first installed, i.e. New hardware detected like SanDisk or Kingston, etc., and then sometimes in the Safely Remove Hardware Window (with Display Device Components checked), although rarely manufacturer information. Virtually none of the CIS data is available any way I know how to look for it under XP. I suppose one could look for some of it by looking in RAM once the driver is loaded (I'm assuming that the driver is in RAM?) but I do not know how to do this. Is there any way that Winhex can read the CIS? |
