This depends on what you are looking for. Sometimes there is a MS Office for Mac on it - then you have a good chance to find the documents (doc, xls, mdb). But Mac users often use special Office programs (e.g. "Ragtime") - and then you will not find much with the viewer. You can search for text strings.
Pictures, music, htm and films should be no problem. Dmg, sit can be opened in another Mac.
Sounds crazy, but:
If you have another apple, restore the image on a HD of your own and try to run it in YOUR apple. This works very often (usually you only have to check if the customers machine had a new Intel processor or the old processor) and you have the chance to read the documents.

Could you describe better what you want to do? Timestamps? Pictures of people? Hash values? Read documents? Internet Connections? Something else?
