I have a compact flash that I need to clone multiple times. Apparently, the source compact flash is "special" in that it claims to have more data/sectors on it than my target devices. Both are listed as 64 MB compact flashes. When I attempt to copy them, X-Ways Forensics refuses, as the target device is just a bit smaller. Understandable. Now, when I tried X-Ways, I started with WinHex. One time, and I mean just one time, I found a menu under disk tools (?) that allowed me to adjust the disk parameters - Set Disk Parameters. It had 3 entries, I tweeked the target device and was able to complete my clone operation. After that one time, I have never been able to find this option again. Now that I'm in Forensics (updated WinHex), the disk parameters menu only allows me to change the cluster count, and the new value doesn't stick. I know I could set three values... ideas? |

With Tools | Disk Tools | Clone Disk, you could copy any user-defined range of sectors if you uncheck [ ] Copy entire medium. E.g. you only could clone the first 131,000 out of 131,072 total sectors. > Set Disk Parameters. It had 3 entries This is the Set Disk Parameters dialog window for physical media. > disk parameters menu only allows me to change the > cluster count If a logical volume is open, that dialog window applies to that logical volume and allwows you to change the cluster count. This is described in both the program help and the user manual. How you open your compact flash card, as a physical medium or logical drive letter, is up to you. |

doh! slapping forehead! Stefan, thanks for the pointer. It's the logical/physical thing, and I overlooked it. Now I know what I need to do. Thank you so much. |
