I have a drive that I am trying to clone in order to work on the image to recover files. I was using an old version that showed a dialog when it encountered errors even though I set it to run silently. It appeared that the drive failed for a large number of sectors when I clicked the error dialog quickly and repeatedly. However, I noticed that if I ran it again and waited to click the dialog it would fail on a smaller number of sectors.

I upgraded today since I had been planning to for a while and now the dialog doesn't come up. There is a log however that shows the failing sectors on the fly. There are now seemingly a lot less although on the first attempt sector 0 and sector 1 failed. On the second attempt only sector 0 failed.

My question is this, do you retry bad sectors?

If not, can this be implemented?

If it already retries, here are a couple more questions...
How many times do you retry a given sector?
How long do you wait between retries?
Can this be modified? If so, where?

PS - I searched the Disk Tools forum for posts with 'retry' but came up with 3 unrelated posts.

Hmmm... It turned out to not copy one sector. 100GB of "UNREADABLESECTOR". Although now when I use a the file recovery tool it's finding files.

1) 1 retry
2) don't wait
3) no
