hi folks I have been searching how can I clone a disk because even I use winhex it is not possible. When I saw you form and informant fols I think my problem can be solved here. I have a machine Ipc which is working with 1 gb industrial CF card. recently. It damaged and we lost some production even I fixed the problem then I tought it would be very good if I had one cloned cf card. So I searched and find Tranced industral CF which same fixed drive like the other. but when get clone it whit win hex after %97 it makes an error. when I checked I saw that original CF has 2.046.240 sectors but my new CF card get get only 1.986.048 sectors. My guess is there is some sectors which I can not formatwide my new CF like as the old one. How can I make a clone of old CF? how can I format new CF 2.406.240 sectors like older one. please folks I need your answers. I read some of your writings and I beleived that I can find my answer on this forum. thanks inadvance regards hakan |

try to run HP USB format (an USB formatting tool) on the new CF card first - maybe you get out some more sectors (but I do not really believe it). In doubt you should replace the new CF card by another one. In many cases a bigger CF card should do the same job too (well, you waste space when simply coping the card, but this is the smaller problem). |

You cannot really "change" the number of sectors if they do not physically exist. You need another CF card. The size written on the cover of a HD / CF card is NOT ALWAYS absolutely the same (some producers "say" their cards are bigger as they are). Means: 2GB from company one are not 2 GB from company two. Sometimes even the same company sells different sizes. So the only help is to get a bigger card (or a card with at least the same number of sectors), e.g. a 4 GB card and to waste the free space. |

Ok I got your point but what I did not understand is , on CF card is there realy sectors . ı tought it is logical sectors so I should change the sectors, am I wrong? I have tried 2 GB but then Winhex gave me an error massage says it blocked some kid a massage after finished the copy. I think it might me 2 gb cf is not fixed drive. Also I need youto ask is there way to sshow a CF as fixed drive.? Thank you for you answers |

Yes, for a CF card there is a way. For that you need a PCMCIA adapter. In that case it should theoretically be possible to issue a low level format (which might restore the original sector count). With such an adapter the card appears as an ordinary ATA-device. |

WinHex will not do a low level format. |

I would not be sure if the warranty is lost if you try a low-level-format. So I would recommend using a bigger CF card. Meanwhile they are not so expensive. Try to give the other card back. |
